Celestine N. Wanjalla, MD, PhD, is a Kenyan in the diaspora who works as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  She visited the University of Nairobi Dental Hospital on 17/07/2023 to discuss bilateral research and dental education between the two institutions.

Her long-term goal is to be a tenured physician-scientist conducting global research in academic medicine with a focus on reducing the burden of metabolic disease due to chronic viral infections, including HIV and herpes viruses.  Prof Wanjalla is part of a multidisciplinary research team that includes Prof Arther Kemoli (paediatric dentistry), Dr Micah Oyaro (Immunology) and Dr Elizabeth Dimba (oral pathology).
