Development of low-cost glass ionomer cements

Dr Olivia Osiro is a recipient of a USD 50,000 CARTA re-entry grant to complete pending work from her PhD project which was titled ‘Development of a prototype for a restorative dental cement in Kenya’. The present work is titled ‘Development of low-cost glass ionomer cements for dental restorations’. She has recently attended a short research visit between August and November 2022 as an Honorary Lecturer at the Dental Physical Sciences Unit and Barts and the London School of Dentistry, Queen Mary, University of London.

POST-SURGICAL PROSTHETIC TREATMENT (OMFS JOURNAL CLUB)

The unit of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology/Oral Medicine and Craniofacial Radiology holds a weekly Journal Club on clinical practice and advances in relevant topics.  Guest lecturers are frequently invited to share their experiences in health care.  On 7th November 2022, 36 participants who included members of academic staff, postgraduate students and interns held a discussion on “Outcomes of prosthetic rehabilitation in patients who have undergone surgery for cancers of the head and neck”.

STUDENTS ADMISSION AT THE DEPARTMENT OF DENTAL SCIENCES

The Department of Dental Sciences enrolled students for training in Bachelors and Masters in Dental Surgery in various specialties.

This year, the Department admitted a total of 82 students for the 5 year Bachelors in Dental Surgery program. This is the highest number ever recorded and we are looking forward to their team success and ultimate graduation in 2027. For Masters of Dental Surgery, the department prides in having admitted a total of 12 students.
