The unit of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Pathology/Oral Medicine and Craniofacial Radiology holds a weekly Journal Club on clinical practice and advances in relevant topics.  Guest lecturers are frequently invited to share their experiences in health care.  On 7th November 2022, 36 participants who included members of academic staff, postgraduate students and interns held a discussion on “Outcomes of prosthetic rehabilitation in patients who have undergone surgery for cancers of the head and neck”.

The presenter was a postgraduate student, Dr Robert Mandela and the moderator was Prof SW Guthua.  The meeting was also graced by the presence of Dr Margaret Ndung’u Mwasha, a consultant prosthodontist who shared  her practical experience in the field.   Prof SW Guthua is an innovator who incorporated the usage of maxillofacial prostheses via 3D printing into surgical rehabilitation of head and  neck patients in 2019, an approach that was reported in the local daily newspapers.
