TABASAMU is a multi-disciplinary collaboration for expanding research capacity in oral health and HIV/AIDS between the universities of Nairobi and Washington. The aim of TABASAMU is to identify a pioneer generation of oral health researchers, create a network of expert mentors and to develop an educational program (MPH/PHD) for long term training in oral health and HIV. The TABASAMU project held focus group discussions facilitated by our alumnus based in Rwanda, Dr Jenipher Ober at the Department of Dental Sciences on 16th February 2023. The focus group recorded mentorship priorities from a selected group of potential mentors and mentees using an innovative qualitative/ quantitative group discussion strategy. The Department of Dental Sciences is an emerging hub of oral health/HIV research and will benefit greatly from this mentorship.
