Apply to study at the Department of Dental Sciences.

The UoN Dental Hospital theater resumes operation after more than one year of closure that was occasioned by the breakdown of the anaesthetic machine. The hospital purchased a replacement and today marked the inaugural surgery with the new machine.

The UoN Dental Hospital was on Monday 13th, 2023 successfully inspected by the KMPDC as a Dental Intern Centre. Present for the inspection meeting was Dr. Walter Odhiambo - Chairman of the Department and respective Heads of Units in the Department.

The University of Nairobi Dental Hospital commissioned a new anaesthetic machine for the Hospital theater.

In attendance were the Dean FHS - Prof. George Osanjo, the MD UNES - Dr. Seith Abeka, Consultant Surgeons and Anaesthesists from the Dental School and Kenyatta National Hospital. The nursing team and the biomedical engineers witnessed the demonstration on the operations of the new machine.

The theater will start operations next week to offer services to patients as well as training of Postgraduates in Maxillofacial Surgery.

The Chairman of the Department invited Dr. Ketan Patel for a guest lecture on 9th February 2023 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. The lecture on HYPOGLOSSAL NERVE STIMULATION FOR MANAGEMENT OF MODERATE TO SEVERE OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA was attended by the academic staff, post graduate students and interns. Dr. Ketan Patel is an Oncologist Maxillofacial Surgeon from the Department of OMFS, North Memorial Health, USA.

The Chairman of the Department - Dr. Walter Odhiambo received students from Sheffield University, Dental School - UK, who paid him a courtesy call. The 4th year students have been permitted to observe clinical procedures in the Department's clinics for three days. The students are Harmeet Singh Arora, Samraj Singh Shergill and Amir Peter Singh Swali.

The University of Nairobi Senate has approved the revised Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Syllabus. This was communicated by the Chairman of the Department of Dental Sciences – Dr. W. Odhiambo.
